(DENVER, CO, 9/8/17) -- The Colorado chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CO), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned repeated neo-Nazi vandalism targeting a Jewish couple in Lafayette, Colo.
According to media reports, the couple reported that someone has carved a Nazi swastika into the front door of their apartment twice since Tuesday.
“All Americans must speak out against the rising tide of hate in our nation and repudiate those who sow bigotry and division,” said CAIR-CO Board Chair Farid Amin. “We condemn these acts of hate and express solidarity with the couple targeted and with the Colorado Jewish community.”
In June, CAIR-CO condemned racist and anti-Semitic vandalism targeting an Aurora, Colo., Jewish couple.
CAIR and the American Muslim community have in the past expressed solidarity with Christian, Jewish, Native American, African-American, and Sikh communities in New Mexico, Florida, South Carolina, Maryland, Alabama, Massachusetts, South Dakota, Ohio, Texas, and other states following acts of hate, threats, violence, vandalism, arson, or bombings.
Individuals in Colorado are asked to report any bias incidents to local police and to CAIR-CO at 720-509-9956.
CAIR’s national headquarters in Washington, D.C., has noted an unprecedented spike in hate incidents targeting American Muslims and other minority groups since the November 8 election.
The Washington-based civil rights organization is asking community members to report any bias incidents to police and to CAIR's Civil Rights Department at 202-742-6420 or by filing a report at: http://www.cair.com/report
Because of the rise in hate incidents, CAIR recently launched an app to share critical "know your rights" information and to simplify the process to report hate crimes and bias incidents.
