(Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, 06/03/14) -- On Tuesday, June 3, the North Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NTX) will hold a news conference calling for the resignation of Keller ISD Trustee Jo Lynn Haussmann due to her disparaging and Islamophobic remarks made online via her social media page.
Haussmann scolded Southlake voters for their poor turnout at the polls that resulted in the election of a Muslim to the city council of which she said, "What a SHAME!!!!"

"The Keller community deserves a trustee that is committed to diversity and sound judgment regardless of race, religion, or national origin," stated Alia Salem, Executive Director of CAIR-NTX. "An apology in this case is insufficient. These comments are not the first of its kind from Mrs. Haussmann, as she has made similar negative comments in the past regarding Islam and Muslims. This indicates a deeply held belief that cannot be washed away with a mere apology. We hope that other trustees and local leaders will work with the community on this issue by taking a zero-tolerance policy on racist and discriminatory statements."
In 2012, she wrote online: "RIGHT! That's what I said, 'MORMONS DO 'NOT' SUPPORT ABORTION OR SAME SEX MARRIAGE!" If Muslims aren't for it, then why is Obama and all of his muslim followers supporting it? Why is HE not decapitated!?!"
CAIR-NTX is not alone in calling for her resignation. Concerned Keller residents who wish to stand in opposition to her statement have also called for the resignation of Mrs. Haussmann. A growing number of Keller residents and concerned citizens have even signed on to a petition calling for her resignation.
Just this weekend as reports were being released on Haussmann's comments, north Texas community members and interfaith partners gathered at Reverchon Park in Dallas to hold a Walk Against Islamophobia. The Walk Against Islamophobia was a response to these exact types of issues that Muslims are facing all across Texas and the U.S.A.
"It is imperative that the Keller ISD representatives take swift and appropriate action. If they do not they will lose credibility with, and support from, those who believe in a society that honors our diversity and founding principles of equality and justice for all. Even more dangerously, they will send a message to the community that this behavior is acceptable and does not warrant significant consequences." Salem said.
CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
