Action Alert: CAIR-Texas Questions Why Senator Ted Cruz Appeared at Anti-Muslim Hate Group Event in D.C.

Washington-based Muslim civil rights organization urges Texas voters to contact Cruz’s offices seeking explanation

(DALLAS, TX, 10/3/2017) – The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today questioned why Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) agreed to speak at an event this morning hosted by a virulently anti-Muslim hate group.

Sen. Cruz live-streamed his participation in ACT for America’s Capitol Hill National Security Legislative Briefing. That hate group, which has been linked to white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups and individuals, also presented Sen. Cruz with its National Security Leadership award. Act for America has hosted many of the same white supremacist groups and exhibited the same bigoted themes witnessed at the Charlottesville “Unite the Right” racist rally that resulted in a deadly act of domestic terrorism.

“We urge Senator Cruz to explain why he would speak at a hate group’s event and why he refuses to meet with Muslim constituents, despite repeated requests for such a meeting,” said CAIR-San Antonio President Sarwat Husain.

ACTION ALERT: CAIR-Texas is urging voters to contact Senator Cruz’s offices to request an explanation of his participation in a notorious anti-Muslim hate group’s event as well as his support for ACT for America’s anti-Muslim agenda.
